The squirrel population in North West England has rocketed over the last twenty years to the extent that they have grown to be a major pest species dealt with by Squirrels in Attic Pest Control

The grey squirrels which we see in our gardens (Sciurus carolinensis) are not native to the British isles, having been brought here less than 200 years ago from America

Like other members of the Sciuridae family, the Grey Squirrel is a scatter-hoarder; it staches food away in numerous small caches for later recovery. Some hoards are temporary, especially those made near the source of a sudden glut of food.

Other caches are more permanent and are not collected until months later. It has been seen that each squirrel makes several thousand hoards each year. Squirrels have very good spatial memory for the locations of these hoards, and use far and near landmarks to relocate them. Smell is used when the squirrel is within a short distance of the hoard.

The nest of the grey squirrel is called a dray (or drey) and it is normal for the female to have two litters per year, each of two to four young..

They can be minor problems, digging bulbs and taking food intended for birds but become major pests when they enter our homes.

It is increasingly common for Trafford Pest Control to attend homes where a nest has been built in a loft or attic space.

Squirrels are true rodents and as such have teeth which never stop growing; the very word rodent comes from the Latin word rodere meaning to gnaw and this they do very well indeed.

It is rare to enter a roof void where a dray has been built and find that they have not damaged electrical wiring, indeed it is estimated that up to 40 percent of fires without an obviously attributable cause may have been started by rodents chewing wiring.

Unfortunately they can also chew through water-pipes, especially with the modern movement towards plastic piping.

As if that is not enough, many household insurance policies specifically exclude damage by vermin so if a squirrel floods your house by eating through a water pipe in the loft you may find yourself without insurance cover.

Eradicating Squirrels in Loft needs a professional, often because the law regarding squirrels is complicated and ever changing. You cannot simply get a packet of rat poison from your local store and deal with them that way as you would be breaking the law.

Furthermore you cannot catch them and relocate them some distance away, not only would removing a squirrel from the area of its food caches probably cause it do die of starvation, it is also commintting an offence under the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981 under which it is illegal to release a grey squirrel in Britain.

That applies also to rescuing and/or rehabilitating and releasing injured squirrels.

In the vast majority of cases trapping is the most realistic option and this must be done in a specified manner with routine, timed inspections of the traps.

Trapped squirrels are then humanely dispatched.

Men and women Spotting Unique Objects Out of Their Holiday villas In Costa Blanca, Denia Spain

This occurred during holiday. We had been staying in some pleasant Denia apartments, as opposed to last year when we stayed in our friend’s villas in Denia, or in previous years other types of Denia accommodation. Anyway, this particular early morning, I recall my alarm waking me up about 5:30am. I usually awaken very early [...]
