Outdoor landscape lights serve a variety of purposes, for some they are meant to be multi functional but for others these lights are chosen for only one purpose. Typically the primary reasons they are chosen includes security purposes, for greater ability to see after dusk, to highlight certain areas of the yard, as well as for increased look. Regardless of your your goal there are a couple of things to consider before you make a purchase.
Certainly there is not a lack of landscape lights from which to choose, there are table lamps, coach, globe, string and removable bollard lights to name a few. If you prefer a distinct type of outdoor light you might consider starting there, but first be certain it truly matches the style of your house.
Another thing to think about when buying lighting is the installation and maintenance involved. With plenty of money this might not be a big issue because you can employ a professional to complete the job properly. However if you are on a tight budget this will make a difference. The installation will be different depending on the type of lighting you select. There are three standard types of lighting, low-voltage, high-voltage and solar.
Low-voltage lights need to be connected to the electrical circuit of the house. But there are advantages of this type of system. They tend to be easier to set up than high-voltage lights and require smaller trenches in the ground. Also they merely use 12 electrical volts.
High-voltage lights will need its own electrical circuit and this must be installed by a professional who is licensed. Granted this type of lighting is a higher priced option. High-voltage lights require more electricity, but they are able to power a higher number of lights without a decrease in voltage, and are possibly better if you expect to increase your outdoor lighting system in the foreseeable future.
Solar lights are the least difficult type of lighting to set up as they do not need an electrical power source. Plus solar lights are free to use once the units themselves are bought. Regrettably this type may not function perfectly in particular areas of the nation. When the solar panels don’t have exposure to sufficient sunshine through the day time they won’t work very well.
