Men and women can be very particular about their religious music. In some churches, rock music is out of the question entirely. Other religious organizations shun standard music, attempting to maintain a more encouraging and contemporary feel.
In my opinion, all these approaches are wrongheaded. The whole point would be to share music with other Christians – music that communicates your values. Regardless of whether you like a specific kind of Christian song, it is still important to understand that it is coming from a very good place.
Of course, not all Christian music makes great church music. Lots of the time, tradition is where it remains, as far as church singing goes. After all, there is nothing better than a resounding chorus of voices signing to the heavens in choruses of hallelujah.
